About Puliyodharai Mix
This is a wet paste, not a powder — tamarind, gingelly oil and spice cooked together until the oil separates and floats. That separation is the preservation; nothing else is added.
The oil layer on top is meant to be there. Stir it back in.
One jar makes roughly eight cups of rice. Temple proportions: enough that the rice is properly coated, not so much that it turns to slush.

Everything that goes in, and nothing that does not. No preservatives, no chemicals, no added colour.

Ground in a facility that also handles wheat, groundnut, sesame and tree nuts.
How to use
Two heaped tablespoons per cup of cooked rice, cooled to warm.
Rest fifteen minutes before eating — it needs the time to take.

Travel food, solved
Took this on a two-day train journey. Mixed it into rice in the morning and it was still perfect at night. Tastes like the temple prasadam, which I assume is the intention.

Oil separation is normal, do not panic
Opened it and thought it had gone off. It has not — the oil layer is the preservation and you stir it in. Says so on the page, I did not read it. Excellent product.

Do not skip the peanut tempering
First time I just stirred the powder through rice and it was fine but flat. Second time I did the tempering with peanuts the way the page says and it was the real thing. The instructions are there for a reason.
